The Silly Cycle of Sickness

Feeling good, eating better, exercising.

Catch a bug, start to feel bad.

Get totally and completely sick.

Am so sick, can't eat much of anything, can't exercise - just drag self to couch and stare at children so they don't kill each other.

Start to feel better, still too weak to exercise.

Get strength back. Ease into it slowly. Exercising, eating well.

Back to full productivity. Life is good, feeling frisky.

Start to feel sick.

This is the cycle I've been living since August. Don't know how to forestall it, don't know how to speed it up, don't know how to make the healthy times last longer. But it's really frustrating me.

Any ideas?

And yeah, just coming out of another bout of sick.

Goals this week: Take vitamins every day, especially the ones that keep you from getting sick. Drink enough water. Get more sleep. (Yes, I'm laughing already.)

I hope you get over all this sick soon! What a major bummer!

Here are my only ideas, and they may not even apply to you. But I'll throw them out there anyway:

1) If you're getting tummy sicknesses, try Acidophilus Pearls. I've tried other probiotics, but these ones seem to work the best. I just got them at Wal-Mart.

2) An apple a day keeps the doctor away. I know, it's so cliche. But the truth is that there was a time when I was getting sick every week for, like, half the winter, and I finally came to the "A-Ha" (or more like "Duh") moment where I realized I'd been putting only junk foods into my body for a long time and expecting to not only keep myself healthy, but I'd been pregnant and nursing recently, too. As soon as I started eating good - and I mean, really good. No sugar, all apples and brown rice, etc. - I quit getting sick for the rest of the season.

3) There was another time when I was getting sick a lot when I realized it was the dust in the air vents left over from some basement construction we'd been doing. I had them cleaned out and I was good to go.

Don't know if any of those help you, but it's all I've got, other than lots of well wishes!

Tristi,

The ONLY thing that keeps me healthy is sleep. When I first started teaching at a JUNIOR HIGH I was worried because you hear horror stories about how sick new teachers get. Every time I started to get sick I'd sleep in--even to the extent of taking the day off so I could sleep.

But you have SO much going on in your life, I have no idea if getting more sleep is possible, plus, not everyone's body works the same.

Sleep tends to be a cure-all for me, even to the extent of losing weight, but it might not be the same for everyone.

I guess the only thing I can say is GOOD LUCK. And I hope things get better for you soon.
